Easter Weekend

We had a very busy Easter weekend this year. But we had a lot of fun as well.

On Friday some of the mom's from church put together an Easter egg hunt. They did such a wonderful job of organizing it and it was great for little kids. They didn't get run over by the older kids and they got their fair share of candy. Jayden had a good time picking up the eggs and putting them in his bucket. All though he kept getting distracted by the candy that fell out of an egg. And he all he wanted to do was eat it.

Here he is showing me his eggs. He also loves playing with the plastic eggs. But he will now open them and look inside and say " N0 candy".

Later that evening we attended a church cake decorating activity. If you know Derrick you know he likes to do things big. We had four 9 x13 cakes as a base and six round cakes for the tree. He had been planning on what to do for weeks. If you can't tell what it is. It is supposed to be a tree, with a picnic basket, and a picnic blanket with some place settings of food. The tree didn't turn out quite as we had planned. Derrick had spent two hours the night before fashioning branches out of wire and unfortulatly the fondant was to heavy for the wire and the branches started falling off the cake. We also ran out of time and frosting and could only get the top part frosted with green. Also the rice crispy treats kept falling apart when we were trying to make the basket. But the food and the picnic blanket turned out great. Also earlier that day when I was taking two of the base cakes out of the pans they cracked. So I had to do some manuvering to paste them back together with frosting. And I was baking another cake to use for the picnic basket but I forgot to put eggs in it. So luckily I had bought supplies to make rice crispy treats. Boy was I lucky that Jayden took a long nap that day. Jayden was actually great at the activity. He was ok playing by himself a lot and he loved following the missionaries around. Even despite falling off a chair and being hit with a basketball he was a pretty happy kid the whole time.

And as you can see we won for best cake. Although I think there were several other cakes that were much better than ours. I think Jayden swayed the judges with his cute smile.

The next day we watched conference which was very inspiring. There always seems to be a talk or two that really help me to try and be better. If you remember for Christmas I had bought Derrick tickets to see the Nuggets. Well in December I had not realized that I bought them on the same weekend as conference and Easter. But we were lucky that our neighbors were nice enough to watch Jayden for us. But we left shortly after the second session of conference ended and headed to Denver. This is how high up we were . In the nose bleeds two rows away from the very top and funny enough I did get a nosebleed. Even though we were so far up you could still see the game pretty well. We got some overly priced hamburgers and french fries and settled in the watch the game.

The Nuggets were down 21 points in the second quarter and ended up winning the game by 8. At first we thought it was going to be a blow out but then they really picked up their game and it was fun to watch. I love our new camera and the great zoom on it. Look at what a clear picture we got even though we were so far up.

I am not quite sure why I look like Quasimoto in this picture. But we sure had a good time at the game. Although it took us a while to catch on to all of the things that they have the crowd say. It was a great date and Derrick wants to go again next year.

The next day was Easter. We watched conference again in the morning and afternoon. Jayden loved trying to say all of the apostles names and he would fold his arms for the prayer and ask for more music after the chior had sung. Sometimes he would even repeat some of the things that the prophet was saying. After a wonderful meal of pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes and corn we dyed easter eggs. Jayden loved putting the eggs into the dye.

I think this is such a great picture. I think Jayden is looking more and more like his Daddy.

My parents gave Jayden this adorable apron for Christmas and I think Jayden looks so cute in it.
He loved wearing it too.

I don't usually get a whole lot for Easter. But I have to get some chocolate each year. Jayden is just like his mom and dad and loves Reese's mini cups. I also made some flip cards for Jayden with pictures of temples and Jesus that he can play with at church. I was trying to explain to Jayden the other day that Jesus died for us. And he then replied "Dying Jesus Eggs" I thought it was so funny. I tried to explain the difference but I don't think he got it. I suppose he did make the connection that Easter is all about Jesus.

This is not a part of Easter Weekend but I got these sunglasses for Jayden at the store yesterday. He always wants to see my sunglasses and in fact he broke the last pair I had. So I thought that maybe if I got him his own he would leave mine alone. From the time I put them on in the store till almost dinner time he wanted to wear them. And they were one of the first things he asked for when he woke up this morning.

Isn't he just adorable. I love it.
