Derrick and I celebrated our fourth anniversary on the 8th of August ( it is actually the 10th but we celebrated early). We each got eachother some nice clothes (Derrick: two dress shirts, Catherine: new slacks, shoes, and a blouse.) We got all dressed up in our new outfits. We were looking fine and we were ready for a nice adult night on the town. We got a babysitter for Jayden so no kids Yay!! The plan was dinner at a nice resturant and a theater show. Dinner was pretty good we went to an Italian resturant in down town. Although I got the lamb which was pretty good just not $24 good. It reminded me of turkey. Then it was off to our show "The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree"

Celebrating the Life of a Wonderful Woman
On Saturday July 18th we were given the news that Derrick's mother had passed away. In Feburary she was diagnosed with lung cancer. We had no indication prior to this that she was sick. By the time they diagnosed it, it had spread significantly. In the past few months during her battle with cancer our family plus her community members have taken time to care for her. We will truly miss her.
Some of the things that we will remember most about her are:
Judy was a great mother she loved her children so much and supported them and challenged them to try new things and to continue to perfect themselves.
Judy was a wonderful grandmother. She loved to spoil her grandchildren with presents, sweets, lots of food, love and attention. She also loved to plan activities and parties for everyone in the family.
Judy loved to give to everyone. She loved to share her talents and her laughter with everyone she met.
Judy loved to have fun. She loved to play games with the family, go fishing, go to the craft stores, and go to hockey games. She loved music, to listen to it and sing it.
Judy also loved the Savior Jesus Christ. She knew of his love for her and all of her family. She loved to share her testimony with others at church and in the community.
The service was beautiful. It was a wonderful way to remember her and her life. On the front of the program it simply said "Celebration of Life" and we think that is what it really was, a celebration of a life well lived. We laughed we cried and we all came together closer as we remembered all that she has done for us in our lives. You could feel the spirit as the speakers testified of Christ and of the Plan of Salvation.
We have also included a copy of her obituary. She was a remarkable woman who has touched so many lives and we are all better for having known her.

Portland Adventures
In June Jayden and I had the chance to go to Portland for ten days. Derrick couldn't come because he had to work but we talked every night. My best friend Katie had asked me to be the Maid of Honor at her wedding so of course I made sure I could go to that. And funny enough my cousin was getting married the same weekend. We were very busy but had a great time. Here is the scoop:
Jayden and I in front of the seals. You can't see them here but I think those were one of his favorites.
They have a new baby elephant at the zoo. Isn't it cute?
Grandma Jackson, Jayden and a baboon
This is a little hard to see but it is a bald eagle. We saw one catch a fish while we were there.
A giraffe
Jayden had a long day and was tired.
Day 5: Jayden and I just realxed this day. I did some laundry and cleaned up a little bit around the house. Then after I had put Jayden to bed my sister Kelsey got home from Costa Rica. We spent a little while talking about her trip and she showed us pictures.
Day 6: The morning started off nice and slow and Jayden and I just spent some time together playing. Later on in the evening we went to the store to pick up some presents for my friend Katie and my cousin Kevin's wedding. Later that night my parents watched Jayden for me while I went out with my friend Katie for her Bachelorette Party. Now she and her friends are Seventh Day Adventist and I am LDS so needless to say the party wasn't very crazy. However we were trying to go to a resturant in Vancouver and the stupid GPS kept trying to take us to downtown Portland instead. We had reservations at 8:30 and didn't end up getting there until alomst 9:40. We had to finally pull over to the side of the road and call the resturant for directions which was difficult as well since the manager didn't speak English very well. We finally got there however with many illegal Uturns and a lot of confusion. They were closing at 10 however so we were the only ones there and I think they were trying to get us out of there as quickly as possible. But it was a lot of fun to be out with the girls. I had everyone write advice to Katie and Alex and we all had leis to give to Katie at the end of the night. When I got home however I found out that after I had put Jayden to bed and I left that my Dad went in and picked him up and rocked him to sleep because he was crying. Jayden was sure spoiled by grandpa. My Dad said that is what Grandpas are supposed to do.

Day 7: This was a very busy day. Jayden woke up at his usual 5:30 am. My brother Steve and his friend Ashley arrived shortly after that ( they drove all night from Rexburg). We visited for a while and then I put Jayden down for a nap. I got ready to go and then at 9:30 we left to be at the temple by 10:00am for my cousin's sealing. I didn't get to go in because I had Jayden. But it was nice to be there any way. After that we visited for a while with family. Jayden got to meet some more of my realatives. Then we went and picked up some Father's Day presents and a little snack. Then we headed to Oregon City for the luncheon at 1:00. It was good to be with family and share in their special day. But then by 2:30 it was time to head back to Clackamas so that I could pick up my Dad's car and head out to Boring for the rehersal for Katie's wedding. I got there a little late but made it. Funny enough the guy who was escorting me in the wedding procrssion was over 6 ft tall I am sure it looked hilarious. Jayden got to meet his auntie Katie and her family. I was sure glad that they got to see him. Afterwards we had strawberry shortcake for dessert. Then I headed back home and got there by 5:30. We finnished getting things ready for my cousin's reception and we were back in the car to Oregon City. The reception was lovely. They really put a lot of thought into it and they had some yummy food. My cousin seems very happy and I really liked his new wife's family. We made it home by 10:00pm and by this time Jayden had crashed in the car. He didn't even wake up when I changed him in to pajamas and changed his diaper. It was a busy day but Jayden was so awesome. He was a such a good boy and so happy the whole time even though we were running around all day.

Day 8: This was a pretty relaxed day compared to the day before. We worked on altering my dress for the wedding amd relaxed and talked together as a family. We had the missionaries over for dinner and had a good time talking with them. Then after I put Jayden down we went to the store to pick out a present for Jayden for his upcoming birthday.
Day 9:We made breakfast for my Dad for Father's day (for real this time) We had waffles with strawberries, blue berries and whipped topping. My Dad opened his gifts and was really excited about the book I got for him. Then it was time for me to get ready. My sister Kelesy did my hair and make-up and did an excellent job. I ended up getting to the church an hour early which was fine since I needed to run to the store because I forgot deodorant. But in Boring Oregon there really aren't a whole lot of stores and even less open on a Sunday. So I finally found a little convience store and picked up a couple of things. By the time I got back to the church Katie had arrived and I had the honor of helping her get ready. She looked goregeous. Having been through a wedding before I wanted to make sure that I was there to get Katie whatever she needed and to help anyone else that needed it too. The wedding was beautiful very simple and sweet. We had the reception afterwards and I had a good time visiting with Katie's friends and family. Once it was over I said my goodbyes and headed home. Afterwards Jayden and I called Derrick to wish him a happy Father's day.

The ceremony. Doesn't she look great?

Day10: I started packing and realized that I had way too much stuff to bring home and I couldn't fit it all in the baggage that I brought. Believe me I tried to stuff it all in but I had to take one of my parents suitcases instead. We finally got all packed and were ready to go. We went to the store before heading to the airport and of course Grandma Jackson had to spoil Jayden. She bought him some treats and toys for the plane. We made it to the airport by 3:00 but they said I couldn't check in until I got to the gate. By the time I got through security and to the gate they informed me that they had oversold the flight and there was no more room left. The flight attendent asked if I wanted a later flight and i was already pushing Jayden past his bedtime. I told him no and I probably wasn't too nice about it either. But finally two people gave up their seats so I could get on. I was lucky enough to get "A" boarding and there was a very nice teenage boy who sat next to us and didn't mind Jayden bugging him. We finally made it back to Colorado by around 8:00pm. It was so good to see Derrick. On our way home from the airport we saw the coolest lightening storm.
Overall it was a very busy week but it was enjoyable and I am glad I got to spend time with friends and family, It would have been better however if Derrick could have been there too.
